Secret Service police arrested two men on a slew of charges Thursday, including prohibited weapons and unlawful transportation of a firearm, after officers observed them acting suspiciously in Washington DC’s upscale Georgetown neighborhood.

Video footage shows more than a half dozen U.S. Secret Service officers searching through a black four-door Ford sedan with Indiana plates that said Marine Corps Veteran.

Officials removed what appeared to be an assault-style rifle and body armor components from the vehicle.

One suspect was arrested for possession of a prohibited weapon, carrying a dangerous weapon, unlawful transportation of a firearm, unregistered ammunition, unregistered firearm and carrying a firearm without a license, police confirmed to DailyMail.com.

The other was taken into custody for possession of a prohibited weapon and carrying a dangerous weapon.

The suspects have been taken to the Metropolitan Police Department’s second district precinct for processing. Their identities have not been released.

More than a half dozen U.S. Secret Service officers responded to the 1000 block of Wisconsin Avenue NW block Thursday morning around 9.10am.

Witnesses said the suspects were handcuffed and separated, before at being taken away in a Secret Service van. 

One of the suspects wore tan pants and a black hoodie, while the other wore a camouflage-style jacket and a baseball cap.

Video footage shows an officer sifting through a camouflage backpack likely belonging to one of the suspects. 

Officers also removed several items from the suspects’ vehicle including weapons and ammunition.

The Secret Service, which protects U.S. political leaders and their families, did not immediately respond to a request for comment, while the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department referred questions to the Secret Service

The incident occurred in the heart of Georgetown, an upscale neighborhood of shops and homes popular with tourists

The upscale Georgetown neighborhood is home to DC’s top shops, five-star dining, luxurious hotels and historic homes and estates that are popular among tourists. 

The neighborhood, which is one of the oldest in the DC metro area, is home to many politicians, lobbyists and socialites. 

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former Secretaries of State John Kerry and Madeleine Albright are reportedly current Georgetown residents.

Several famous politicians, including former Presidents John F. Kennedy and Thomas Jefferson, have resided in the community. Kennedy lived in Georgetown during his stint in the US Senate. Jefferson lived there during his vice presidency.

The neighborhood is also home to prestigious Georgetown University.
